I was a truly miserable night in Tallaght tonight for the on going Dublin Juvenile Championships. The non stop drizzling rain continuing from early afternoon right through the entire programnme of 1500s, hopefully this doesn’t mean that Ireland’s Outdoor Summer has ended!!
Anyway onto the action. Pride of place goes to Niall Carbery who continues his excellent season with a tactically astute performance in the U/19 1500, always controlling proceedings Niall ran out as the winner taking his first Dublin title in 4.11. A very good run also in this race by new comer Cian Murray. In the U/18 boys, there were a number of races, with the medals going on time, although the guys finished outside of the medals there were excellent runs by all in particular by Sean Boyne 4th, Ronan Donohue, also 4th in his heat, Andrew Gaffney, Cillian Sherrin and Jack Woods. Likewise the U/17s put in a great night’s work, lead home in 3rd place and taking bronze JD Kelly and very good runs also by Sam Murray and Cillian Keegan. This group of athletes are showing great promise under coach Mick Fogarty and have the makings of a very fine cross country squad.
Of the girls Katie Halpin, who like the entire 6th year community has had a torrid year and just finished her leaving cert exams, put in a solid run to silver in the girls U/19. Although it was tough with training on the back burner these past two months Katie bravely toed the line and as always with her battled all the way. Amy Sheehy ran very well indeed in the u/18 race, continuing to progress with every race finished 5th. The youngster of the travelling group Clodagh Nic Domhnaill also ran very well indeed to 7th in the U/17 race and continues to gain valuable experience.
Well done to all. The next nights/days of these championships are July 2nd to 4th. Full details will be posted early next week.
