The Walker Cup is a four mile handicap race and was first run in 1966. The Cup itself was presented to the Club by the Walker family and is in honour of Charles and George Walker who had both been National 4 Mile champions in the 1920s and were both members of the Clonliffe National Cross Country winning team in 1925.
On Thursday evening 31 athletes competed in the 2023 Walker Cup in Morton Stadium Santry. Sean Doran put in a cracking performance, leading from start to finish, to record the fastest time of the night 00:20:14. Robbie Dowling had an excellent run with a time of 00:22:39. In third place with another fine run was Peter Bissett in a time of 00:23:55.
The first woman home with a fine run was Aisling Andrews with a time of 00:26:47. In second place with a solid performance was Orla Deighan in a time of 00:28:55. In third place and back from injury was Laura Kernan in 00:29:22.

The night belonged to Pat Devitt who won the handicap and was presented with the the Walker Cup. In second place was Yvonne McDonagh. In third was Diarmuid Doyle. All three were presented with their prizes at the post race reception. Many thanks to all the athletes who participated, those who officiated and Paddy and Dan for the welcome refreshments.
Winners of the Grand Prix Summer Track Series
A competition was held over the summer featuring the following races, 5K, 800m, 3K, 1500m, Mile, 5K, and 10K. The winners were in first place Peter Bissett with 172 points, Carl Fleming with 169 points and Deirdre Fitzsimons with 163 points. All three were presented with their prizes.
Next Race
On Sunday 22 October the Clonliffe 2 Mile, first run in 1891, takes place in Glasnevin at 11am. This year marks the 132nd running of the race. Entry is online and full details are available on the Clonliffe web site www.clonliffeharriersac.com
Volunteers sought to assist with Clonliffe 2
If you are not running the race could you come to Glasnevin to assist with the stewarding of the race. The race is being run on busy roads and we are obliged to provide stewards to marshal the course for competitors.Volunteers are asked to report at the Gravediggers Pub Glasnevin for 10.00am where duties will be allocated.
