Rolus retains National Decathlon title

After a grueling two days in warm and sticky conditions and a competition long battle with Shane Aston (Trim AC) Clonliffe’s own Superman Rolus Olusa has retained the National Decathlon title in Morton Stadium.

Yesterday courtesy of long jump (7.06) and high jump (1.90) wins, 2nd in the 100 (11.35) and two 3rd places, 400 and shot Rolus took the overnight lead. Today was neck and neck but with a pole vault win of 4.20, 2nd in the 110H (15.82) and 2nd in the javelin (47.81), 4th in the discus (38.60) and in the final event the 1500 a 30 second win in 4.43.50 over Aston secured the title for the Clonliffe man. The final points tally Rolus 6,900, Shane Aston 6704 with Michael Healy (Youghal AC) 3rd 4.763.
