On Friday and Saturday last the Irish Universities Track and Field Championships took place at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast with a number of Clonliffe athletes in action. Jayme Rossister has carried his cross country form into the early track season as he won the 3,000 sc title for DCU in 9.21.55. IUAA title also for Clonliffe Harrier of the year Denise Byrne won the javelin with a best of 38.82, a 3m improvement on her seasons opener at the Spring Throws in Athlone two weeks back. Silvers were won by Dara Kervick (UDC) in the 200 in 21.57, after a 21.80 effort in the semi, Andrew Heney (Athlone IT) in the high jump (2.00m) and Ian Rogers (Athlone IT) in the pole vault (4.60m).Keith Pike ran three rounds in the 100 progressing to the final where he had a 4th place finish (10.96), Sturat Roche went out in the heats after an 11.49 run, and progressed to the 200 final where he ran 23.29 placing 7th. Timmy Crowe ran 49.60 in the 400 to win his semi but DNS the final. Ian Guiden was 6th in the 5000 (15.15.46). In the women`s events Caoime Morris was 5th in the discus (32.56) and Greta Streimikyte 7th in the 1500 (5.08.52)
