A busy day for Clonliffe athletes in all sort of places: Australia, the Phoenix Park and Waterford. The weekend round up starts in Queensland, Australia where Mark McDonald won this morning’s Parkrun in the stunning location of Airlie Beach in 19.25, almost 50 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Despite the early morning start to beat high temperatures the race was run in 29 degrees!
There were some superb runs from the 20+ Clonliffe athletes in the Jingle Bells 5K, promoted by Donore Harriers, in the Phoenix Park this morning. Ben Coughlan clocked a superb PB, going sub 15 for the 1st time as he finished 12th in 14.57, a fraction behind was Eoin Taggart 13th, also 14.57. Cathal McHale in 28th also ran a PB, despite suffering from a heavy cold, 15.22. These 3 took 3rd place in the team category behind Rathfarnham, led by race winner Mitchell Byrne, in 1st with hosts, Donore 2nd. Other Clonliffe:

The Waterford half marathon this morning also brought considerable Clonliffe success. Sergiu Ciobanu was 2nd, 1st M40, in an impressive 67:10, 13 seconds behind in 3rd place came Mihail Sprincean 67:23 and then in 4th 67:33 Tudor Mireca. Former Harrier Becky Woods was 2nd woman, 1st W35 in an excellent 77:41. Great to see Aisling Coppinger back racing for Clonliffe, 2nd W50 in 95:34. Finally Robert Cummins 95:52.
