The Big Guns were out over the weekend on the roads and bye ways of Ireland and beyond. A number of the club`s top men were in action including Stephen Scullion, Gary O`Hanlon and Sergiu Ciobanu. The weekend round up starts on Saturday in Omagh for the annual Half Marathon were Stephen Scullion, fresh from his recent National 5 Mile track best, was a comfortable winner in 67.01. In Donadea Valdas Doplskasa was 1st in the 5k (15.40.76) and Jean Carr 19th overall and 1st W50 in the 10k (46.24). Also the latest BHAA round took place, another 10k in St. Anne`s Park, Raheny 2nd place was Tom Sherlock 33.51, 23rd Maurice McCrohan 39.50, 34th Ollie Power 41.57, 38th Emma Cooper (See www.bhaa.ie for full results).
On Sunday also up North Scullion made it a weekend double as he won the Titanic Quater 10k in his native Belfast in a time of 30.29. Also in this one was Declan Power 12th 33.49. On the streets of Berlin National Marathon Champion Gary O`Hanlon ran 67.00 in the city`s Half Marathon (the race was run in an unbelievable 58.42-Erick Kiptanui (KEN)). Gary was 24th overall and 1st M40. Closer to home at the Duhallow Newmarket 10 Mile Sergiu Ciobanu was 2nd in 49.13.
In his last outing as a Clonliffe Harrier before his transfer to Clonmel AC David Mansfield ran a fine 2:24.57 in Rotterdam. There were also three fine Marathon PBs today, first off by Clonliffe duo Stephen Tracey and Mark Dowling in the Rotterdam Marathon: Stephen posted 3:02.28 and Mark 3:04.50 both Pbs and in 20 degrees. Another marathon pb was recorded in Manchester by Anthony Doran of 3 hours and 7 minutes. Also today in the Phoenix Park Wayne Walker finished 3rd in the Grocers 10k in 37.49.
