Stephen Rice nominated as U/23 athlete of the year

Clonliffe’s Stephen Rice has been nominated by Athletics Ireland in the U/23 athlete of the year. Stephen won the javelin title this year and was in superb form over the early part of the season steadily improving his PB, util he picked up a serious injury while competing from the club at the European Club`s in Birmingham at the end of May. After a few weeks recovery he was back in top form and at the Morton Games he featured at the sharp end (pun intended!) of the competition in throwing a huge 75.89m javelin to finish 2nd in a top international field and in the process set a new Irish U/23 record.

Stephen is nominated in U/23 category along with Matthew Behan (Crusaders), Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) and Michaela Walsh (Swinford).

Clonliffe Harriers have won the performance club of the year award for the past three years and are expected to be in the running again for 2018.

The Irish Life Health Athletics Awards takes place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Blanchardstown on Thursday November 29th.
