Kevin Loftus reports: “Tonight was the night that concluded a wonderful year of athletics for all of the young harriers in the club. In what was possibly the harshest track conditions ever faced by some of the abundant brave souls who battled against every element, there was a spectacular performance from all who ran.
A howling wind, torrential rain and wintery conditions deterred none – all of whom were determined to run and finish; and of course share in the enjoyment of the party in the club lounge afterwards! Overall what a night of stunning running to behold, a night well worth spending in the company of friends; celebrating a terrific display of sheer talent and valour in what was great year for all involved in Clonliffe!
Due to her strength of perseverance and dedication that holds no bounds, Becky Fitzsimons was a stand-alone favourite for the truly well earned title of “Athlete of the Year”. Becky has given everything to her training this past year in all that she does – well done to you Becky. A massive “well done!” to all who competed, a special mention to two inspiring athletes who have well and truly gone the “extra mile” over the past twelve months above and beyond the call of duty to say the least – these two terrific examples of a typical harrier are Alex Hogan and Amy Connolly.
To all of our winners – what a fantastic display of your talent and hard work that you have put in with your time and effort, you dedication is admirable indeed, enjoy the delicious prizes that you so well deserve! To all those who stood out of the lime light so to say keep up the great work and success won’t be too far down the line.
A very, very, very special mention goes out to the simply amazing team of coaches who have given of their time so freely and without any upset whatsoever. All of the background work that is undertaken by you doesn’t go unappreciated – we thank you for what would seem like endless hours of your time and effort. To Gladys, Ciara, Gerry, Tracy, Kevin, Noel and Mick – the most sincerest of “thank you”.
So all in all a wonderful night of Cake Races, we wish all in Clonliffe a very “MERRY CHRISTMAS” and the best start to the new year of 2015 possible. A good break and a completely deserved rest is needed for all! We hope to see all of the familiar faces who raced today back on the first Tuesday of January when school resumes. Well done to all.”
