The Great Clonliffe Juvenile Cake Off

Tonight`s Juvenile Cake Races drew great numbers of young Harriers to the Stadium for a great night`s racing and fun. Between the 8 races well over 100 athletes took to the track. As always the races were run on a handicap basis with the handicapper getting some spot on and others maybe not so!

There were races over middle distances from 500m to 1000m from U/9 up to U/15 plus for good measure an exciting 400 for the Juvenile sprinters. Post races the athletes gathered for their prize giving (Cakes to the winners of course) plus spot prizes, refreshments and a selection box for all, courtesy once again of the generosity of sponsor Colm Doran.

The Cake Race winners were:

U/9 Girls Grace Fitzgerald

U/9 Boys Zion Dianondebs

U/11 Girls Lara Donohue

U/13 Girls Lara Gallagher

U/13 Boys Sam Fearan

U/15 Boys Sam Kawalczyke

Sprinters 400 Girls Ellen Foley

Sprinters 400 Boys Ciaran Gartland

Clonliffe Twice Junior Cross Country Champion Hope Saunders, home for holidays from Florida State gave a great talk to the young athletes advising them to continue to work and train hard particularly on those wet cold nights and to keep believing in themselves. Hope then presented the two most prestigious Juvenile awards: The Juvenile Athlete of the year to Emma McDonnell and the Juvenile Harrier of the year to Rapha Diamond-Ebbs.

Well done to all our wonderful juvenile athletes, and a huge thank you to Juvenile Captain Gladys Cooper and her team of Coaches and assistants for all their hard work throughout 2016.
