Aside from the IMC Morton Meet and the Belfast and Limerick festivals Clonliffe athletes managed to find additional racing opportunities. Starting on Friday the 29th in the US Sean Kay ran an impressive 5000 of 14.20.79, a new PB, at the Penn Relays, Franklin Field, Philadelphia.
Today in the Phoenix Park the ARC 5k and 10k took place, Clonliffe junior Emily Ryan was 3rd JF running 27.36 in the 5k while Mo McCrohan 44.20 in the 10k was 1st M50. Declan Power was in London for the weekend where he took in the British 10k championships, yes the one were Mo Farrah’s comeback came unstuck, Declan was 1st M50 in 33.45.
Members of the Clonliffe Junior/U23 Men’s group took the M3 north to the Village of Kells to take part in the Royal County 5k. This is an event that generally attracts club members from the North County Meath area. The course is a tough one, with the start running downhill for the first 2k and then the crosses the River Moynalty before beginning a steady climb up to the Kells by-pass which the runners run along for a further 2k. The final 800m is largely climbing before a decline into the finish. There was unfortunately no team prizes as the Clonliffe lads placing 3rd Kevin (17:43), 5th George Legentil (18:10), 7th Andrew Gafney 18:34, 9th Lee Duddy 19:11 (pb) and 10th Eoin Byrne 19:38 would undoubtedly have taken the spolis!
