Some great racing by Clonliffe athletes over the course of the weekend, both from afar and much closer to home – just down the road on Griffith Avenue. On Friday, the 15th Emma Campbell was in the best place to avoid the rain the rest of us endured all weekend, at Palm Beach, Florida where she placed 46th in the Keiser University Flagship Invitational cross country in 20.45.
Meghan O’Keeffe made her half marathon debut at home in Kilkenny on Saturday the 16th where she ran a fine race to finish 2nd woman, 14th overall, in a time of 92.13. A PB also in this race for Aoife Kinahan (1:53.20).
Today, the 17th, an excellent Griffith Avenue mile took place drawing a huge entry despite the incessant rain which was won by Donore Harriers John Travers in a lightning fast 4.01. Top of the 20 or so Clonliffe athletes was young Sean Cronin running 4.15 for 6th place and 1st U/20. Lorcan Benjacar was 9th 4.19, Mahad Egaal 15th 4.26, Cillian Keegan 16th 4.29. Sarah Bateson had a fine run to finish 4th woman (5.13), 6th was Ciara Peelo, 1st W40 (5.18), 9th Hannah Browne (5.36), 11th young Sophie Kernan, 3rd U/20 woman (5.46). Other Clonliffe: James Dunne (4.58), Joshua Chalmers (5.20), Aisling Andrews (5.50), Sarah Hawkshaw (5.53), Cuan Higgins (6.14), Orla Deignan (7.07), Luka Belton (7.45), Daragh Kidd (7.45), Jason Kernan (8.19), Cian Connolly (8.30), Sean Connolly (8.32). In addition to these there were many other young Clonliffe athletes out taking part but were ‘un-chipped’ so no results available.
