We start on Thursday, the 18th in Cork where Sergiu Ciobanu finished 9th in the Ballintotis 4 mile in a gun time of 20.12, very strangely his chip time was 20.04 which would have given 7th place.
In the USA Sean Kay (Yale) was 8th in the 10,000 at the Mount SAC Relays in a time of 30.08.01. At the Golden Eagle Invitational in LA Jess Tappin won the 400 Hurdles in 57.69.
Saturday, the 20th, saw a number of Clonliffe athletes head to the Mary Peters track in Belfast for the North Belfast Harriers afternoon of 5,000s. Great to report on the return to racing of Emma Mitchell who placed 8th in the women’s race A in 17.16.36 and also of Richie Owens who ran 15.43.60 in the men’s A race, both of whom have endured long periods of injury. Cian Murray was 6th in the D race in 16.36.43 with Jack Woods 17.10.58 in 15th and in the E race Andrew Gaffney 6th clocking a 17.06.37 PB.
Also on Saturday and back in the USA at the Gibson Invitation at Indiana State University Gavin Cougle was 1st in heat 2 of the 200 (22.04), in a swirling wind. Gavin was also 2nd leg on the Butler 4 x 100 team that placed 4th, 41.25.
Jess Tappin completed her USA tour on Saturday at the Mount SAC relays in LA finishing 7th in her 400H heat in 57.96.
