A good weekend for Clonliffe athletes home and away. First off in weekend action was David Flynn in his first outing for Arkansas State Univerity at Friday`s Razorback Invitational Indoor in Fayetteville where he placed 3rd in his 1 Mile heat in 4.15.43 in a blanket finish for places 2 to 4 being seperated by fractions of a second. Also Stateside Grahan Mahon back at Clarkes University got his 2012 indoor season off to a solid enough start placing 5th in the Mile at yesterday`s Sparton Open, University of Dubuque in a time of 4.41.39. Back home there were excellent runs by Clonliffe athletes in the John Treacy 10 Mile in Dungarvan today. Gary O`Hanlon continued his build up to the National Cross Country this day four weeks with a superb run clocking a time of 49:46 in finishing 3rd. One place behind and pushing Gary all the way in 50:20 was Brian McMahon. An excellent run also from Declan Power running a PB of 54:05 and a PB also from Kirean Murphy of 61:50 as the Clonliffe men took the team prize. There was a particularly fine run by Ailish Malone 4th in the women`s race in an excellent PB of 58:37. Both Gary and Ailish as a result have been invited to join the Marathon Mission Squad.
There was a bumper entry in this afternoon`s Raheny 5 with over 2,000 finishers in a race won in fine style by Mullingar AC`s Mark Christie in a fast 23:29 despite the persistent rain. There was a sizeable Clonliffe presence of 30 plus athletes lead home in 6th by Sergiu Ciobanu 24:22, Michael MacDiarmada 12th in 24:53, Darren Reilly 58th in 27:17, Ernie Ramsey 64th in 27:27, Philip O`Doherty ran 27:44, Colm Hickey 27:54. Also under 30 minutes were Gerard Kirwin 28:23, Joseph Cooper 28:30, Tom Sherlock 29:12 and Joe Phibbs 29:18. Good runs also from Richard Case 30:47, Tom Griffin 30:58, Joyce O`Hare an excellent PB of 31:23, Alan Worrell 31:44, Declan Murray 31:44, Stephen Byrne 32:04,Kevin Dowling 32:25, Colm Breen 33:03, Sinead Hartnett 33:15, Eugene McCarrick 34:15, Richard Connolly 34:19, Richie Barr 34:20, Pat Devitt 35:49, Pat O`Rourke 36:20, Karen Kinsella 36:26, Trevor Wisdom 38:52 and Janette Reid 40:08
