The weekend round up starts with this morning`s latest round in the BHAA cross country in Maynooth for the NUI/AIB Races. A great run in the womens 2.5 Mile race by Kerri Page, showing no after effects of last Sunday`s Nationals, with an excellent 3rd place finish. In the mens race over 5 miles top Clonliffe man was Ernie Ramsey, another athlete who ran in the Nationals, finishing well up in 7th place. Darren Reilly was 13th, Niall Sherlock 17th, Ger Kirwan, another National`s man 23rd and the younger Sherlock, Tom, 30th. More updates….
Young Clonliffe Race Walker Ryan Cleary was in action on Saturday in the Isle of Man. Ryan was in the 10k Race at the Ascot Hotel Manx Open held on the roads around the National Sports Centre, Douglas (the venue visited by the Juvenile section of Clonliffe a few years back). Ryan placed 3rd in his race in 52:56.
Both Sergiu Ciobanu and Gary O`Hanlon, 2nd and 3rd in last week`s National XC had good wins today, Sunday the 4th. Sergiu successfully retained his prestigious Ballcotton 10 Mile title early this afternoon winning in an excellent time of 49:20. Sergiu was over a minute clear of 2nd and ran some 17 seconds faster that his 2011 winning time. Sub 50 is impressive at the best of times but in Ballycotton with it`s long uphill finish it`s even more impressive. Other Clonliffe in Ballycotton: Kieran Murphy 62:58, Alan Worrall 65:47, Marie Byrne 68:42.
Meanwhile in Bohermeen Gary O`Hanlon was also back in the saddle as he chawked up yet another Half Marathon win in 70:51. Other Clonliffe: Fiachra Crean 83:28, Dominick Brannigan (no not that one!) 90:02 and Maurice McCrohan 95:40.
Also over the weekend Clonliffe sprinter Keith Pike won the Dublin U/19 indoor 60m in 7.1.
In other news Dave Hooper has been in contact to advise that he has uploaded his interviews for Dublin City FM with Sergiu, Gary and Joe from the Nationals and these can be accessed at www.facebook.com/insidesportdcfm. (Thanks Dave)
