Several Clonliffe athletes raced over the course of the weekend both at home and away. Strangely enough 2nd place featured strongly on the results. Starting off in Smithfield, Rhode Island, USA where Aaron Hanlon, now in his final year with Providence College, finished in 2nd place in the Nassaney Invitational Cross Country(25.08) only a handful of seasons from his team mate as the Friars dominated to take an easy win.
2nd also yesterday for Sean Doran in the Pftizer 5k Road Race in 16.03, only two days post the Clonliffe Club 10,000. Also yesterday young Sarah Bateson had a fine run in the Great Pink 5k in Dublin`s Phoenix Park placing well in the top 20, and 3rd woman in 22.02.
Today, September 10th, at the Ratoath 5k Sean Carrig was 2nd in an impressive 15.47, Efern was 6th and 1st junior in 16.12 with Tudor Mircea, now back racing again, 7th in 16.17.
Also today at the Great North Run, in Newcastle, a very good outing by Stephen Scullion finishing 14th in 65.52 for the half marathon distance, as he steers towards the Dublin City Marathon at the end of next month. That was a one minute PB!!
