Now school`s out with A pluses all round

Once again Clonliffe athletes excelled for their schools at today`s All Ireland Track and Field Championships in Tullamore The club`s athletes won 2 gold, 2 silver and a bronze.

Aaron Cullen was excellent in the U/16 mile. He waited and waited until the back straight and then blasted away to win for Portmarnock Community School in a championship record time of 4.31.49. A good run also by Belvedere`s Daniel Stone 8th (4.48.05).

Also in golden form was Daniel Lacey with another superb show of barrier jumping in the inter 1500 sc taking a fine win in the St. Aidans colours in 4.37.29.

Completing a great day for Portmarnock was Craig Giles taking double inter silver: 800 in 1.57.73 and 1500 in 4.15.32.

A special mention of a great servant to St. Aidans CBS Greg Hossenny in his last ever outing in the famous red and white taking senior race walk bronze.

Finally the st. Aidans senior relay 4 x 400 squad were just out of the medals in 4th. The team were 2nd until Finn McManus took a very heavy fall and suffered a serious injury. Get well soon Finn.
