Oct 30, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Well done Cian McLoughlin in this morning`s 27th Dublin Marathon in being the first Irish man home and thereby taking the National Marathon Title in a time of 2:22:36 for 10th place overall. There was a Russian double with the Dublin Marathon mens title going to Aleksey Sokolov in a record time of 2:11:38 and the women`s to Elena Ivanova (2:29:49). There were several Clonliffe athletes amongst the 10,000 or so starters details of their finishing times will be posted when available. Well done also to Eugene Coppinger and his team on all their hard work put into making the Dublin marathon the success it is today.

Silver ladies and bronze men at Dublin Intermediates

Oct 14, 2006 [Noel Guiden] Good battling performances at today`s Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships held in Tymon Park. Host club Rathfarnham had a hard enough 2,000m lap marked out over the park`s playing fields featuring a number of sharp turns and the proverbial testing hill two thirds into the lap (the hill was obviously worked by hydraulics making the incline steeper on each lap). Underfoot conditions were superb with an almost complete absence of mud on an unseasonably warm afternoon.

First race was the ladies Championship over 4,000m. Thankfully we had a full team of 4 due to Karen Duggan answering an sos call to arms on the morning after she had finished her day`s training on Howth Head. With her warm up over Karen headed to Tymon Park!

The girls packed extreamly well with Krissey Gormley finishing 6th, Captain Bronagh NiBhriain 8th, Alish McDermott 11th and Karen 18th to take Silver behind Sportsworld (1,2,5,12) with Rathfarnham 3rd. Race winner was Jean Wilson 16:54.

The men were then sent on their merry way for their 5 laps of the park (10,000m) with Sergiue Cioban immeadiately at the front to lead out the field. Maurice McCronhan in the middle of his Dublin Marathon preparations was running his usual strong steady race with support from vastly improved Alan Worrall, having his best year to date. At the finish Sergiue still had Rathfarnham`s Owen Ryan for company as they sprinted to the line shoulder to shoulder with the Rathfarnham man prevailing to win in 36:03 two seconds from Sergiue who took silver.

Our men took bronze ,the scorers being Sergiue 2nd, Maurice McCrohnan 22nd, Alan Worall 24th and Stephen Byrne 26th, backed up by NG 30th and Paul Duggan 32nd.First team were Rathfarnham ( 1,6,8,10) with Raheny 2nd.
