Brother Schools XC Final Instructions

Wednesday next, Oct 5th, will see the most welcome return of the Brother schools cross country. Once again there is a bumper entry of athletes, with some 1500 young athletes from 50 schools coming to take part in what is one of the highlights of the Clonliffe Harriers year. Once again Clonliffe are indebted to our fantastic sponsor Brother, who have sponsored this event since its revival in 2009. Due to ongoing refurbishment works in the stadium this year’s event will take place in Trinity sports grounds on Santry Avenue.

Thanks as always to our club members who had volunteered to help out: course builders please report to Trinity at 8 AM and the general officials report at 11/11.30 AM. If you have not volunteered but are in a position to come along please contact Noel Guiden (0879599888) by Monday evening at the latest for finalisation of the event plan. Even if you have never volunteered before it is guaranteed that you will have a thoroughly enjoyable day’s athletics – full on-the-job training provided!

Awards: First three individuals in each race – presentation will be made to the individuals immediately after each race.

Team awards: First three in each race. The team result will be calculated by the addition of the place finishings of the first four athletes from each school. The school with the lowest score will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on the basis of the highest finish of the 4th scoring athlete from the tying schools.

Souvenir T-shirt: There will be a souvenir Brother Schools XC T-shirt for all athletes which will be presented at the finish of each race.

Best Schools: Our sponsor Brother will make arrangements to make a presentation of a piece of Brother office equipment to the best boys primary school, best girls primary school, best boys secondary school and best girls secondary school.

Publication of race results: a race report and photographs (please note that by taking part you are also consenting to the taking of photographs and the photographs being published on the Clonliffe Harriers website, no athletes will of course be identified in any photographs) will be posted on clonliffeharriersac.com on Wednesday evening. We will publish only in the results section the top 3 individuals in each race and likewise the top 3 schools in each race. Please note that we do not publish or record results beyond this, we want athletes and their schools to enjoy the meet and while it is competitive it is not the overarching purpose.

Litter: Please do not leave any letter. we would implore you to appoint an individual/individuals to be responsible for the removal of all litter generated by your athletes. Please bring a sack for litter. Your co-operation in this connection is vital. We have the use of the venue thanks to the cooperation and assistance of Trinity College and it is vitally important that we leave the facility in the same condition in which it was given. Please also bear in mind that if you do not collect litter generated by your school it is one of the hard-working volunteers who will have to do this. Not the most pleasant of tasks and indeed extremely unfair to expect people who have been on site from 8 AM to be there until darkness falls picking up someone else’s rubbish.

Health and Safety: Please obey the instructions of all marshals at the venue. Marshals will be clearly identifiable as they will be wearing high vis vests. Please note that on health and safety grounds all athletes must avail of footwear. No athlete is permitted to race barefoot.

Medical Emergencies: St. John’s Ambulance will be in attendance.
