The Dublin Juvenile track and field league got underway at the Morton Stadium tonight for the U/10 to U/16 age groups. The numbers taking part had to be seen to be believed. The Stadium was packed. By way of example the girls U/10 100 had 11 heats! Of course the down side of such healthy numbers was that the program ran way over the expected time, well over 3 hours. For those who lasted the distance they were rewarded by witnessing an outstanding run by Clonliffe`s Joseph Hession in the final race of the night the U/16 800. Joseph as is his want took up the running from the off to win by from Alex Hogan by some 10 seconds and set a fantastic pb of 2.02.88.
Other notable performances tonight included a wonderful Clonliffe one two in the girls U/15 800 from Lauren Carr, a strong 1st and fast finishing Hannah Browne 2nd. 1st places were also recorded by Jonathan Fitzsimons in the U/10 500, and 2nd in the long jump. Ella Brown 1st U/13 100 and 2nd in the 600.
Great runs also by Cillian Forrester 2nd in the boys U/13 600, Rebecca Fitzsimons 2nd in her U/14 100, Amy Hodson 2nd in her U/13 600, also in the U/13 600 Vicki McDonald 2nd in her race. In the U/15 100 Amy Connolly placed 2nd in her race and Ella Cooley a fine 3rd in her U/12 600.
