Club`s young athletes clock up wins as league comes to Santry

A cold but dry night greeted the return of the Dublin Juvenile track and field league to the Morton Stadium tonight for round 3. Some really good runs from the Clonliffe athletes in action particularily in the distance races. Noteable highlights included fine runs in the u/16 girls 1200m race from Laura Tuite and Sally Aherne. These girls have improved greatly over the last few months, both are dedicated trainers, and tonight ran with great confidence sitting in the pack until 400 to go when Laura made her move with Sally right on her tail; a battle royal for the lap with Laura just the stronger taking a fine win with Sally 3rd. In the U/15 race Alannah Cooley aslo ran a fine battling race, and although she finished out of the top 3 it was a most encouraging performance. A good run also by Kate Hession trying out the sprints again 3rd in her U/16 heat and 5th fastest overall on the night.

Ruth Bergin was the class of the field in her U/13 600m race with a super final lap to record a great win, a good 5th place in the second U/13 race from Lauren Carr. Well judged finish of the night came from in the U/10 500m as Ella Hession on the final bend went from 5th right to through the field timing her finish perfectly to win on the line! In one of her best races to date Hope Sumola was an excellent 2nd in the U/12 600m.

Of the boys top of the heap was Joseph Hession with a fine win in the U/14 1200. A good run also by young Fintan McManus running with the big boys tonight, double his normal distance. Adam O`Brien lead home the Clonliffe train in the U/15 1200: Adam 3rd, Sean Carrig 4th, Greg Hosseny 5th, Alex Gibbons 6th and Thomas Ward 7th. While Brain Flanagan battled away gamely in the U/16 1200. There was double 3rd for Gavin O`Brien in the U/10 60m and 500m.

Well done to all our young athletes on the night. A nice warm up for Sunday`s Club Championships from 2.30pm.
