Day 2 of the Dublin Juvenile championships brought us to not sunny but dry south to the Tallaght Stadium. Another good day put in by the Clonliffe athletes as 11 medals were gathered: 5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze. The first Clonliffe winner of the day was Ruth Bergin, more noted as a middle distance runner, now adding the long jump to her repertoire, winning the U/13 title with a very impressive jump of 4.11m, Ruth also battled away in the 80m sprints making the semi final. Also in the long jump, U/12 Sol O`Leadagh took 3rd place. Very good performances put in throughout the day by Gerry Carr`s group.
In the sprints Megan Coomber ran an excellent U/17 100 to take Dublin silver, Megan only loosing out over the final 30m. Samuel Oyedirin was 2nd in the U/18 100 with David Deignan 3rd. Akdthi Safari was in good form again today in the throws winning the U/19 shot and finishing 2nd in the discus.
In the 3,000m Cathal Doyle running for the first time over the distance impressed, sitting in for the first four laps and then picking up the pace with 3 to go to take the U/16 title by maybe 60m in 10.26.18. Aaron Hanlon was a very comfortable winner of the U/18 3,000 hardly breaking sweat. Gold also for Laura Brennan is the U/19 3,000 and silver for Rachel Murray in the U/18 race.
