Death of former Club Captain George Smyth

Clonliffe Harriers AC are saddened by the death on New Year`s Eve of George Edward Smyth. George joined Clonliffe in 1944 and was an active member of the club for a long period of time thereafter not only as an athlete but also as a club officer. He served two terms as Club Captain in 1950 and 1951. George`s last appearance in Santry was on the occasion of the club`s 125th anniversary celebrations in 2011 when he attended the running on the 1st of September of the Walker Cup in Morton Stadium. Arrangements: Reposing at Carnegies Funeral Home, The Crescent, Monkstown, on Tuesday (3rd January) 2pm – 5pm, prior to his removal on Wednesday (4th January) to Church of the Guardian Angels, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock, arriving at 9.50am for 10.00am Funeral Mass and afterwards. Nil desperandum.
