European Clubs Track and Field – Clonliffe promoted to Group A

European Athletics have confirmed that Clonliffe Harriers have been promoted from Group B to Group A for this season’s European Champion Clubs Track and Field Championships.

This superb news was only received in recent days and means that Clonliffe will for the first time dine at the top table of European Athletics. Group A takes place over two days in Birmingham, hosted by Birchfield Harriers on Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th.

There is a full programme of athletics at the Championships:

Track: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 5000, 110H, 400H, 3000 SC, 4 x 100 relay and 4 x 400 relay.

Jumps: High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault.

Throws: Shot Putt, Discus, Hammer, Javelin

Ten teams will compete in Group A. There is some top class opposition including crack squads from Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Belgium and of course from the hosts Birchfield Harriers:

RECS (BEL)

Sparta AM (DEN)

Playas de Castellon (ESP)

Birchfiled Harriers (GBR

Cosma (LTU)

Sport Lisboa E Benfica (POR)

AD Mass Ljubljana (SLO)

Enka (TUR)

Clonliffe Harriers (IRL)

AC Stavbar Nitra (SVK)

This represents a tremendous opportunity for the club and the club’s athletes to compete at the highest level for the club. Last year in Group B in Portugal the team performed exceptionally well to place 3rd and only some three points off second place and, with hopefully a full strong squad available, will look forward with confidence to the competition in group A.
