Horan Cup/Club XC Championship this Saturday November 12th

The penultimate round of the 2016 Clonliffe Harriers Grand Prix Series the Horan Cup, sponsored by Richard Connolly takes place this Saturday. The event will incorporate the club junior/senior cross country championships for both men and women.  To complete a championship Saturday the juvenile section of the club will also hold their club cross country championships prior to the Horan Cup.

The Horan Cup itself is one of the oldest Clonliffe Harriers cups and now reaches its 108th birthday.  The first Horan Cup was held back in 1908 presented by Michael Horan who was a club vice president at the time.  In that inaugural race there were seventeen starters, the fastest time of the day for the six mile was recorded by H. Mullally a time of 38.07.  The Horan Cup has always, however, operated on a handicap basis and the winner of the cup that year was Mr. T. Hassell.

The race will incorporate both men and women’s club championships. Please note, however, that the women’s club championship will be a three mile affair with the men completing the six miles.  Women members who are part of the Grand Prix Series and wish to remain in the Grand Prix race of course must complete the six miles!

The Horan Cup/Club Championship will be held at 12 noon.

The juvenile club championships will be run before the Horan cup/Senior Championship with the following races:

U/10  500m

U/12   1000m

U/14   1500m

U/16   2000m

Medals for the first 3. Juveniles please meet at 10.15am at the clubhouse.

As always club members who are not competing and are prepared to help out please arrive early on Saturday.

Important note: Arnotts warehouse sale is on Saturday. Traffic in Santry will be heavy so allow plenty of time to get to stadium.
