Its back! Dublin Tunnel Run August 12th

Clonliffe Harriers are pleased to announce that the club is an event partner with Focus Ireland for the Dublin Tunnel Run which will take place on Sunday the 12th of August. Clonliffe Harriers of course promoted the original Tunnel Run back in December 2006 and after an absence of nearly six years the Dublin Tunnel Run is back providing athletes, runners, and joggers with a unique opportunity for a subterranean run through our capital city. Clonliffe Harrier Tom Griffin will act as the race director and at this stage he is asking members of the club to contact him to confirm their availability to assist with the running of the event on the day. Tom’s contact number is 087 7811 047.

In today announcing the Dublin Tunnel Run Focus Ireland state:

Focus Ireland is calling for 10,000 people to sign up for a run through the Port Tunnel to raise over €175,000.00 in vital funds to help the charity’s service cope with the rising demand for support from people due to the impact of the recession.

It’s the first time since the Port Tunnel opened more than six years ago that it will be opened for an event like this so people can take part in a run with no tolls, barriers or worrying about getting soaked in the typical Irish summer weather.

This run is a 10 km event and is open to all walkers, joggers and runners and Focus Ireland is encouraging people to get in touch now as it expects places to be snapped up quickly.

Entry fee is only €25.00 which will pay for over twelve hot meals for someone who is homeless. The money raised will also help to pay for Focus Ireland’s vital services which benefited nearly 7,500 people who are homeless or at risk last year, a 13% rise on 2010. Starting places for unique events such as this at such a low entry fee sell out quickly. There is a strict limit on the numbers who can take part and the advice, therefore, is for people to enter now by contacting www.focusireland.ie or email events@focusireland.ie or indeed by telephone to (01) 881 5900. Act now to avoid disappointment.
