Johnny Bradley Ward was the winner of tonight`s club race, the 5,000m in the August track series. The race drew a field of around 25 or so to the start line. Johnny justified the tag of pre race favourite by quickly taking the lead and by half way had built up a lead of some 50m. Over the latter stages he hit a rough patch and the chasing duo of Joe Phibbs and Dave Dunwoody smelt blood and began reeling their quarry in. At the bell Johnny still lead but Joe was on his shoulder. JBW kicked and opened a small gap, by the end of the back straight the gap was gone again and at the final bend Dunwoody struck however JBW would not be out done and kicked again, harded this time, to open a winning gap in a flash of 10m and take a well earned win in 17.17. 2nd Dunwoody (17.19)with Phibbs 3rd 917.22). 1st lady was Aine McCann (22.30) The final race is next Thursday The Mile at 8.00pm.
