The penultimate Graded Meet of the season took place in the Morton Stadium last night. With the Nationals due to take place this weekend the Meet was pretty poorly supported and the stadium was a sparse place in the evening swirling wind. Despite that, however, there were a number of good performances from the few Clonliffe athletes in action.Pride of place on the night went to Tomas Rauktys who in winning the discus set a new club record of 52.34m. Martin Hunt recorded a PB in the Hammer with a best of 57.06 metres. Good performance also in the discus from Simon Galligan 10th with a best of 32.79. Elaine Begley made her debut in a Senior race running a strong 400 recording a time of 60.5 for 5th overall and 1st in Grade B. A good Senior debut also by Ronan Doyle finishing 3rd in his 400 in a time of 58.8 whilst Brett Paine warmed up for the Nationals by finishing 2nd in the A/B combined 400 in a time of 52.7. Three of the Club’s Junior Squad ran in the 1500 B Race. A very good run in this race from Andrew Jenkinson recording a new PB of 4:14.51, carving some 15 seconds off his existing PB. Ian Guiden also carved a huge chunk, 20 seconds, off his PB in running a time of 4:24.2 whilst Mark McKenzie still struggles to find form after a season blighted by injury and illness looked a very tired athlete in recording a time of 4:41.2. Phillip Doherty had a good run in the C Race finishing 2nd in 4:33.59.
