Club Captain Joe Cooper has appointed Philip O`Doherty as coach to the club`s Intermediate mens group. Philip will take charge of this group from next week. Philip, who has a wealth of experience having been involved in the sport with Clonliffe since the 1980s and is himself a multi national masters champion, has already got to work and has circulated a training schedule to the athletes in this group. Speaking today Philip said: ” The program is geared towards 5k / 10k running. It would also be useful up to half-marathon but you would to add some mileage and tweak the Saturday session to do longer intervals. For January and most of February, we will be concentrating on conditioning work, while keeping in touch with speed. The idea is that you build a strong base that will allow you to handle faster speed work as we progress into spring.”
Philip will be leading the Tuesday track sessions meeting in the stadium at 6:55pm for 2 mile warm up on road (or in park when back open) – leaving for the warm up sharp at 7. 00, with the session begining on the track at 7.20pm. Any club member who would like to train with this group should contact Philip by e mail podoherty12@gmail.com . Work begins next Tuesday the 8th of January.
