Rogers goes to new heights at Inter versities

Apr 24, 2010 [Jeremy Lyons] Ian Rogers (DIT) was the star for Clonliffe at Day 2 of the Irish Intervarsity Track and Field championships. Rogers took gold but also broke the Irish University record when scaling 4.70, a new PB. Rogers was in flying form and will now look to put even more pressure on Dave Donegan in the battle to be Clonliffe’s No.1. Anthony McCreery was unlucky to no height, which can happen regularly in the vault.

There was also gold for John Fagan (DCU) in the Men’s 400m hurdles. Fagan dominated and won by nearly a second in 53.29. He also picked up silver in the 4 x 400 relay when clocking a 49.6 secs leg.

Sarah Doyle (DCU) also got in the medals as part of the DCU women’s 4 x 100 relay team, running a storming 3rd leg.

Brian Gregan (DCU) was edged out in the men’s 200 by Darragh Graham but still clocked an impressive 22.05 into a -2.5m/s wind. Dolan’s 1952 club record still stands but for how long.

As expected it was confirmed that Big Luke Mangan (DCU) claimed gold in the Men’s Shot Putt with 14.12m with news of his discus exploits still to come.

Sarah Woods (UCD) picked up a bronze again this year in the 400m hurdles and was within 0.3 secs off her PB when crossing the line in 69.67.

Mark McDonald (DCU) was 6th in the Men’s 800m in 1:57.97 in what was a slow tactical race decided with a sprint finish in the last 100m.

All in all a great championships for Clonliffe with 3 Golds, 4 silvers and 4 bronze.
