After a long night in the Morton Stadium for tonight`s Dublin Juvenile league nearly three hours after the first even the best was saved for last. A cracking boys U/16 800m race featuring the best of Clonliffe`s 2012 U/15 All Ireland Cross Country team going head to head. In a race dominated by the squad filling the top 7 places David O`Hanlon who had made a bold bid for the win was caught by the fast finishing Adam O`Brien on the line. Adam winning in a new pb of 2.12.62 a fraction ahead of David, 3rd Sean Carrigg, 4th Shane Merrigan, 5th Greg Hosseny, 6th Kevin McKenna, 7th Alex Gibbons and 13th Conor Monaghan.
Other highlights included a fine win in the U/15 800 from Joseph Hession, also in a pb 2.13. Alanah Cooley hugely impressing in the girls U/16 800 placing 2nd after a truely super run. Sophie Higgins battling away to run her best race to date 3rd in the U/15 800. Another great run from the ever improving Ella Brown 2nd in the U/12 600, Aoife Hession 3rd U/11 600 and Sean Carrigg 3rd in the U/16 long jump.
Throughout the course of a long night in fairly testing conditions, windy and by 8.30 rain, there were great efforts put in by all the young Clonliffe athletes who turned out in great numbers tonight, far too numerous to mention, congratulations to all and well done to the parents who stayed adding support throughout. Next round of the league is Saturday the 11th of May from 11.00am.
