Becky Woods second in inter counties U/23

Nov 29, 2010 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe`s Becky Woods booked her place for the Europeans with a superb run in yesterday`s National Inter Counties in The Arctic (sorry Derry). Becky was 9th in the senior women`s race, which was won in some style by Fionnula Britton, and was 2nd U/23 to qualify for the European Cross Country in Portugal next Sunday week. In addition she was 4th scorer on the victorious Dublin team. Another good run also in this race from Ailish McDermott in 29th place.

Inter County gold also for our two athletes in the junior men`s race: Conor McGuinness was 15th with Jamie Rossister, who missed the start but tore through the field to finish 24th, but making the scorring 6 for Dublin. A real heartbreak for Jamie who would have expected to featured well in the top half dozen.

The sole Clonliffe man in the senior men`s race was Brian McMahon running for Cork, having a pretty good run in 15th place. A great run by all accounts in this race by Joe Sweeney (DSD) in winning the inter county title.

Due to the severe weather conditions an early morning decision was made for both the U/16s and U/18s not to travel to Derry.
