Clonliffe at DAB Graded Meet no. 2

The track and field season continued this evening in Tallaght with the 2nd of the DAB graded meets. The weather was fairly ideal for the 1500 races but as the evening progressed got very cold for the sprint races. There was strong Clonliffe representation in the 1500s, the men’s grade C race featured an intriguing inter-Clonliffe race where Sean Carrigg continued the transition from marathon runner to middle distance athlete finishing 5th in 4.14.57, two places back was Sean Heaslip Owens (4.17.52) and another two places back Tom Sherlock (4.19.71). In the D race Niall Sherlock raced very well indeed biding his time until 300 to go winning out in a time of 4.26.01. Clodagh Galvin and Caoimhe O’Reilly got their track season’s off to a solid start in the combined C D race Clodagh finishing 3rd (5.16.79) with Caoimhe 5th (5.18.65).

Ava Usanova finished 2nd in the 200 B race in a time of 27.05. There was also a Clonliffe junior women’s 4 x 100 relay team competing, the girls were fairly well up against it as their race featured two Ireland U/20 teams, the girls however perform very well the team of Ava, Rebecca Walsh, Sarah McDonald and Emily Jancha finished 3rd recording a time of 52.10.

Eoin Sheridan was a class apart in the discus winning comfortably with a best of 52.59. Joe Gibbons placed 8th (21.65). Frances ‘the Original Morton Marvel’ Mansfield also took part in the discus finishing 6th (13.66).

The next DAB Graded Meet is in a fortnight’s time, Wednesday 24th in Lucan where the night’s proceedings will feature the 400, 800, 4 x 400 relays and shot put.
