Clonliffe athletes take their weary bodies to Cork on Saturday for the final outing of a long long cross country season, now stretching all the way back to September, for the Aviva All Ireland Schools Cross Country. Having negotiated their way through Leinster Regional and then Leinster finals Saturday sees the final race of the season. For Aaron Hanlon it brings the curtain down on a glittering schools cross country career, and he rightly toes the line as one of the fancied athletes in the senior boys race.
The St. Aidans intermediate team are also strongly fancied and with athletes of the standard of Cathal Doyle, Sean Carrigg, Brian Flanagan, Adam O`Brien, Greg Hosseny, Alex Gibbons, Joseph Hession and Shane Merrigan to call on they will go close. The Aidans junior team also has a heavy Clonliffe presence: Sean O`Leary, Fintan McManus, Joey Hutchinson and Alex Hogan. Also qualified for the All Irelands is Laura Tuite in the senior girls.
The Irish Universities Cross Country also takes place at Cork IT where Clonliffe men Eoin McCullough and Ian Guiden are first timers in the men`s race.
Good luck to one and all.
