Day 1 of the Dublin Juvenile Track and Field Championships got underway in Santry Stadium today.
In Track Results: U12 Girls. With 63 athletes competing on times for 3 places in the All Ireland National Championships this was always going to be a difficult task for the girls. In heat 1, Ava Fagan was first up finishing in 3rd in her heat in a time of 1.56.86. In heat 2 Grace Byrne finished 7th in 2.15.99, heat 3, Emily Galvin finished 13th in 2.35.10,Heat 4 Grace Keegan finished 11th in 2.15.74 and in heat 5 Sarah Thomas and Lucy Fagan battled to the finish line taking 6th and 7th places in 2.06.34 and 2.06.67 respectively. Ava with the fastest of the Clonliffe girls finished a very impressive 10th overall.
In the Boys U12, Conn Feore was in heat 1, finishing 4th in 1.59.52. Heat 2 saw Isaac O’Neill take the win in 1.47.20 with training partner Channing O’Shea finishing 8th in that heat in 2.05.74. In heat 3, Rhys Daly finished 5th in 2.01.13.. Isaac took the overall first place and a place in the Nationals in Tullamore later in the summer.
In the U13 Girls, in heat 1, Nina Brunton finished 5th in 1.59.53 and Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh ran in heat 2 finishing 5th in 1.57.64..
Boys U13 600m, Seamus Phelan finished 3rd in his heat with Darragh Kidd finishing 10th in 2.05.000. In heat 2, Sam Steenson finished 5th in 1.51.56 with Andrew Low finishing 8th in 1.57.04. Seamus finished 7th overall.
The u14’s moved up to the 800m distance.U14 Girls, Heat 1 – Rachael McCarthy finished 9th in 2.54.37, Heat 2, Sophia Tennant finished 7th in 2.49.50 and Carragh Nigfhloinn 10th in 2.57.18. Heat 3, Kate Gill finished 6th in 2.44.69.
U14 Boys – Heat 1 was Mark Kelly (LSA) waiting to transfer, finished 2nd in 2.29.69 with a Q to final. 4th was Joel Thomas 2.37.06 and 10th Oliver Galvin 3.00.34. Heat 2, 3rd for Branxton O’Shea in 2.30.03 and Q to the final with Eoghan Thompson 4th in 2.30.62 and a q to the final. In an exciting final, Braxton O’Shea took the silver in 2.23.20 with training partner, Mark finishing 4th in 2.23.48 both through to Nationals with Eoghan Thompson finishing 7th in 2.27.94.
In the U16 Boys 800m Joshua Chalmers had a very impressive run finishing 2nd and a pb in 2.10.21.
In the U17 Girls 800m Harriett Kenny finished 7th in 2.55.74.
Next up was the hurdles. With this being a new discipline for the younger athletes Laura King (u15) was the only one feeling brave enough to try it out and was rewarded with a 5th place finish in Heat 1 in 48.89. Fantastic experience gained.
In the Boys U19 400mh James Duane finished 3rd in 1.05.47
Next up was the 3000m. In the U16 girls, Leah O’Reilly finished 7th in 12.52.89. In the U19 Girls, Sorcha O’Connor was 3rd in 11.18.50 with Aisling Kehoe 4th in 12.13.82.
To finish off the Track for the day for Clonliffe, we had two Dublin Titles – U18 Boys, Matei Ursachi in 8.48.64 and U19 3K Dublin Champion is Oran McGowan who finished in 9.45.11.
FIELD EVENTSIt was truly fantastic to see so many participate in the Field Events this year. Glady’s had put some time into ensuring that the club would develop and grow in this end of competition with enrolled a throws coach in Kieran Lyons and a jumps coach with Michelle Lynch. Some great performances in both areas.
Shot Putt U15 Boy – Caelan Doggett Finne is showing great promise in the throwing events and took 3rd in Shot Putt (8.71)
U12 Boys – 6th place went to Conn Feore with a throw of 6.39 with Rhys Daly in 8th with a throw of 6.02U12 Girls – 18th place for Isabell O’Brien with a throw of 4.73 and 21st for Grace Keegan with her throw of 4.34U14 Girl – 14th place for Savannah O’Neill with her best throw of 5.60
JAVELINU14 Girls had a strong field of Clonliffe Athletes which was fantastic to see. Ava Cosgrave had the best throw from our girls giving her a 6th place finish with a throw of 18.15. Sophie O’Connor finished 7th, 17.16. 8th for Eleanor Fanning with 14.81, 10th for Savannah O’Neill with 12.88 and 12th for Aoibhe Devaney with 11.07. Well done ladies.
U13 Boys – Frank Burke was unlucky to miss out on National Qualification this time round finishing 5th with a best throw of 19.65.
U13 Girls – Violet Cooper finished 6th overall with a throw of 14.26
U15 Boys – Caelan Doggett Finne had some fine throws but results are not to hand at the time of this report. That said, Caelan is showing great form to become a fine thrower for Clonliffe Harriers.
U16 Boys – 2nd Place for Conor Tynan and a place in the Nationals with a throw of 31.15. Nikita Karpey finished 6th with a throw of 25.27 and 7th place was awarded to Conor Phelan with a throw of 16.12.
HIGH JUMPU12 girls had very big numbers. Lucy Fagan had a high number of clear jumps which rewarded her with a 4th place overall on countback, a place in Nationals and a PB with her jump of 1.20.
U12 Boys – Issac O’Neill soared over all jumps and took two further jumps after becoming the clear winner with a Dublin Title, National qualification a PB with his jump of 1.40. Rhys Daly finished 6th overall with some fine jumps with his finishing height at 1.20 and Conn Feore finished 10th with a jump of 1.10
Fantastic Performances by all our Juvenile Athletes and an exciting opening to the Outdoor Track and Field Season. Special thanks to Colin and Siobhan who volunteered to officiate at todays event.
