Hope lies ahead!

Although we remain in the grips of level 5 restrictions there is certainly hope further up the road. At present all club activity remains suspended, the clubhouse is closed and athletes are training individually or in accordance with government guidelines can exercise in pairs with all to remain within 5K of their home. Level 5 restrictions will remain in place until the start of next month, the soundings are reasonably positive and hope remains that there may be some easing of restrictions announced on April 5. Hopefully we can get back to group training in pods outdoors after Easter. On that subject you will need to have paid your 2021 club membership! (Please avail of the on line membership renewal).

As we are now officially in Spring. The weather is certainly improving dramatically and in the words of the old codgers there is indeed ‘a grand stretch in the evenings’. Training alone is much more bearable in better conditions.

There are also further grounds for optimism with potential fixtures for the year ahead with the track season to commence with the AAI Games towards late June followed the week after with the national senior track and field championships. July will see rounds one and two of the National League with the final in August.

August will also hopefully see the national juvenile Championships taking place with the National Masters later in the Summer. It is also brilliant to see on the calendar the ever popular road relays in the autumn, all dates to be confirmed.

The cross country season gets underway with the autumn cross country festival in Abbottstown on October 17, the deferred British and Irish Masters cross country will take place in Santry on November 13 followed by the national cross country on November 21. A hopefully brilliant year will conclude on 12 December as Ireland hosts the European cross-country Championships in Abbottstown.

Once fixtures are confirmed they will be added to the fixtures section of this website which will be updated as more events are announced including hopefully our own club track and field season commencing in May.
