The Horan Cup is one of the jewels in the Clonliffe crown the latest running of this race takes place on Saturday the 10th of November in Santry Demesne at 12.00. A race that dates back over 100 years. In 1908 the Horan Cup was held for the first time, this was a trophy presented by the then vice President of the club Michael Horan Esq. From the seventeen starters that first year, the winner was T. Hassell, 2nd IE Ronan, 3rd JT Graham, 4th J. Bracken with the fastest time recorded by H. Mullally with a time of 38 minutes and 7 seconds. The race was originally a 6 mile open handicap. Pictured is the 1908 group photograph which features some of those 17 starters.
Saturday`s race will be run as a sealed handicap race, there will be prizes for first over the line and the first three in the handicap. If you are not running and are available on Saturday, your help as an official would be greatly appreciated.
