Morton Games: The big news today with some 12 days to go to Morton Games is the confirmation of stadium 3000m record holder Ben True`s return to Morton Games for the 2013 Morton Mile. Ben True is one of the stars of distance running, he lit up the Morton Stadium last year in the Albie Thomas by shattering Eamonn Coghlan`s 25 year standing stadium record running a time of 7.44.40. This year True propelled himself onto the world stage with his brilliant performance in the World Cross Country in Bydgoszcz, Poland (picture by PhotoRun) when he placed 6th, the highest place recorded by a US athlete since 1995 and lead the US to team silver. On the road True has been the US Road Champion over both 5,000 and 10,000 (2011) and on the track has pb`s of 13.14.44, set in April of this year, and 27.41.17. His mile pb of 3.59.99 will take a hammering on July 17th!! Be there it will be True(ly) fantastic!
Also this week: After his exploits over the Mile at the Cork City Sports which he won in a most impressive 3.54.77 Cameron Page, originally entered in the Albie Thomas Men’s 3000 switches to the Morton Mile. The Australian 5000 metre champion on the basis of his run in Cork will clearly be one of the favourites to lift the Morton Memorial Cup in the feature Mile race.
