May 3, 2010 [Noel Guiden] There was considerable activity on the roads around the country over the weekend. Pride of place goes to Lorcan Cronin who had his first big win to date with a superb 1st place in today`s Wexford Half Marathon over a tough course in 74:14. Other Clonliffe results currently to hand. At the BHAA RTE 5 Mile on Staurday May 1st : 42nd place was the real Eoin Murray (29.13), 62nd Maurice McCrohan (30.06), 66th Ailish McDermott (30.27), 87th Joyce O`Hara 31.20).
Jeremy Lyons won the Munster 400m Hurdles at Cork IT today in a time of 53.87.
Meanwhile at the other end of the country Ronan Hartnett clocked yet another sub three hour marathon when finishing 33rd in today`s Belfast City Marathon in 2:55.58.
Also in action in the North of the country was Ernie Ramsey who headed home to Donegal for the North West 10k where he had a good run over what one would assume was a hilly course running 35.44 in finishing 12th.
The ARC 10k took place in Dublin`s Phoenix Park yesterday. Young Graham Mahon having spent the entire Winter complaining that Cross Country was too long a race for an 800m man decided to up the distance to 10,000m! At 7k he was lying in 5th place, however, those pesky Phoenix Park hills and a visit to see a man about a dog took their toll as he finished up 12th overall in a pretty good time on 39.40.
