Sergiu leads Clonliffe charge in Galway Bay

The Clonliffe Half Marathon team travelled west on Saturday for the Galway Bay Half Marathon. Making sure it was a successful sortie was Sergiu Ciobanu leading the field home to chawk up yet another memorable half marathon victory in 67.16 minutes. Gary O`Hanlon was 2nd Clonliffe man some three minutes later in top 10, with Ernie Ramsey continuing his fine form next in for Clonliffe in 76.23 minutes and then Brian McMahon in 82 minutes. A brave run by Brian as he was suffering badly with a back injury. The team managed to escape back home with the team win by a slim margine of three points.

Needles to say as Gary travelled home today (Sunday) his route took him through Athlone so he put the flats back on and took in the Athlone Three Quaters Marathon. A tired Gary still managed a pretty good run to finish runner up in 1.47.56, some 50 seconds behind race winner Barry Minnock (Rathfarnham).
