Track season underway at IUAA C’ships, plus Saturday round up

Summer is here! Or at least the track & field season is! Yesterday’s day 1 of IUAA Championships saw 4 Harriers out representing their colleges at the brand new DSD facility. Highlight was Grace Casey taking silver in the Javelin with a 37.76 best. There was continued success for Craig Duffy setting new 100m and 200m records for Maynooth in 11.17 and 23.03. Both of these records were previously held by  Clonliffe’s Leo Morgan. Craig secured a place in today’s 100m final and will also lead out the Maynooth 4×100 relay. Kenji Miyauchi ran an 11.41 for Trinity in the same 100m heat. Sarah Bateson seen a strong return to racing to record a 4.56 1500m, finishing 9th. A great season’s opener.

Saturday: back at DSD for today’s varsities, were weather conditions conspired against fast sprints, Craig Duffy finished 7th in the 100 final (11.31). In the 4 x 100 relay Craig and menus finished 5th – 45.38 with TCD, led out by Kenji Miyauchi 6th (45.45).

Also today the North Belfast Harriers afternoon of 5000 took place at the Mary Peters track where Lee Duddy ran a PB of 16.38.00 finishing 5th and Cian Murray in 16th similarly ran a PB (17.02.33) .

Meanwhile out West the Sherlock brothers ran the Inis Oirr Wild Atlantic Run with Niall winning the 5K and Thomas the 10k.
