An impressive weekend on the roads once again for Clonliffe Harriers as five wins from four winners are clocked up in prestigious road races: O`Hanlon, MacMahon, Kenneally and Scullion. It`s getting like any given Saturday on this web site….any given Saturday (or Sunday) and our man Gary O`Hanlon is at it again. Last night, Friday, Gary ran and needless to say won, a 4 Mile Road Race at home in the wee county of Louth the Kilkerly Round the Block 4 Miler. Saturday morning and it was Gary`s turn to take Tullamore down. A week after he finished in 2nd place in the Longford marathon, his 6th of 2013, and a week before he competes in the World Mountain Running Championships in Poland, Gary got out the map, jumped in his car, arrived in Tullmore, laced up the flats and won the Tullamore Half Marathon in 72.50. Is there a road race on in Poland next weekend?
Another of the Clonliffe Poland bound mountain men Brian MacMahon also got in a winning fine tune on Saturday morning in Sligo. Brian won the Warriors Run 15k in 52.49.
Also Saturday afternoon and coming future Clonliffe star Cathal Doyle had a fine run in his home town race the Golden Sands 5k in Bettystown. Cathal, an U/17 athlete, finished in an excellent 3rd place in 18.26.
Moving on then to Saturday night when Mark Kenneally made it wins for Clonliffe morning, noon and night. Kenneally winning the Mick Murphy 4 Mile in Ferns, County Wexford in 18.53 from Freddie Sittuk (KEN) and Sean Hehir (Rathfarnham).
On Sunday (September 1st) Stephen Scullion, now back in his native Belfast won in his hometown taking the Laganside 10k comfortably in 30.48 a winning margin of in excess of a minute.
