There was a small team of Clonliffe athletes at today’s Leevale Track and Field meet in CIT, Cork. Elaine Begley took a huge 4 seconds off her PB when finishing 3rd in a very competitive women’s 400m hurdles. She clocked 64.64 while her training partner Sarah Woods also had a PB in 64.86 just behind her.
Denise Byrne was busy, coming 2nd in the Javelin with a throw of 36.80m and then coming 5th in the 400 in 61.60. John Laffey won his heat of the 400m in 52.80, well below his best but he eased off to protect a hamstring he felt mid-race.
Finally, Ciaran Donohoe had a super debut in Clonliffe colours running 22.95 in his heat of the 200. Ciaran is a newcomer to the sport so this is a very encouraging start and augurs well for the season ahead.
