The Clonliffe juvenile athletes got the track season off to a good start in round 1 of the Dublin Juvenile league today in Tallaght. It was a testing day with a biting wind on a very over cast day and unfortunately with the programme over running it lead to a long long wait, particularily for the older middle distance athletes as their races were last on the programme. With the event falling at the tail end of the school Easter break it also meant that the Clonliffe numbers were down.
In the younger age groups there were good performances from David Tuite and Ben Guiden who enjoyed a good race in the U/12 500m with young Tuite winning that battle. Good runs also from Amy Hodson 3rd in the u/11 300m and from Hope. Of the older athletes Sophie Higgins was 4th in the U/14 1200 with Amy McGrath 6th. The U/16 1200 featured a titanic battle between Laura Tuite and Sally Aherne, both girls were always in the lead pack and with MSB`s Venessa making a winning kick for home at 200 it left the Clonliffe girls going shoulder to shoulder down the home straight with Sally taking 2nd in a photo finish from Laura. The U/15 boys 1200 also featured some really good Clonliffe runs David O`Hanlon was 2nd, Sean Carrig 3rd, Greg Hosseny 4th and Thomas Ward 6th. Cathal Doyle ran very well in the U/16 1200 to also finish 2nd with Brian Flanagan 4th.
Well done to all who made the trip to Tallaght, hopefully all will have thawed out by now!
