Clonliffe Harriers will once again play host to the Leinster Schools Cross County Championships in Santry Demesne on Wednesday February 15th. After the Leinster regions the cream of Leinster Schools Cross Country athletics comes to Santry the traditional home of Irish cross country. The event will start at 12 noon and will conclude with the final of 8 races at 2.20 p.m.
The traditional loop will be used which will split close to the Crowne Plaza between a 1000m loop and a 1500m loop and will feature a section up via the garden wall and the best finish in Irish athletics – through the tree-lined avenue in the middle of the park – the same finish straight as was so much complimented following the European Cross Country Championships at this venue back in 2009.
There will be plenty of home athletes competing on their home course with big squads from St. Aidan’s which feature Clonliffe athletes and also athletes competing for Belvedere College – a nice interclub rivalry in the intermediate race in particular. With anticipated numbers taking part in the races expected to be well over 1000 athletes it is a big undertaking and particularly it being a midweek date it can be a challenge to get sufficient help out on the day.
The club appeals to any members or indeed parents of club members who are available to assist with on course marshalling duties on the day to make themselves known to us now. If you are in a position to assist please text your name and contact details to Noel Guiden at 087 9599 888. Any help on the day will be gratefully appreciated. It is not a particularly onerous task that will be assigned but it really is a question of having sufficient numbers available on the day and having a sufficient presence on course.
Without the help of our members we simply could not host a prestigious event such as this. Once again on the 15th of February your club needs you.
A note to the schools taking part, we understand that final details will be furnished by Leinster Schools Athletics to all participating schools shortly, however, final instructions will also be posted on this website prior to the event.
