Great turn out in Malahide for Dylan Ahern 5k

Fastest athlete at yesterday`s running of the annual Dylan Ahern 5k Cross Country steeple chase was Sean Doran. The race was held in excellent conditions. Fears of a wash out after recent bad weather proved to be unfounded as the almost 60 strong field gather at the Castle Field, Malahide Castle to find almost perfect underfoot conditions and a bright pleasant spring day.

The race is run on an open handicapped basis so the less strong runners where sent on their way first to face 5,000m on the country including jumps and of course “Dylan`s Ditch”. In addition to the large field there was a great turn out of spectators and officials for this race held to honour the memory of Clonliffe Harrier Dylan Ahern who passed away at such a young age a little over 4 years ago.

First man home and race winner was Brendan Donnelly, 2nd Shay Byrne, 3rd Richie Barr. Fastest athlete to cover the course was Sean Doran in 17.59.
