At yesterday`s Irish Versities Championships Greta Streimikyte ran a new 1500 pb of 4.56.37 and more importantly the A standard for the Rio Paralympics. This was an outstanding run by Greta, who last weekend won the 1500 at the IPC Grand Prix Meet in Italy, and today took a huge chunk off her pb to grab the A standard for Rio.
More from Versities: Ian Rogers took the pole vault title with a 4.40m effort. In the sprints Chris Sibanda took double bronze, first off in the 100 in 10.81 and then in the 200 with a 21.77 run. Bronze also for Simon Galligan in the hammer (58.33), while Keith Pike was 5th in the 100 (10.93).
Denise Byrne also medalled, bronze in the javelin (34.31m). Other Clonliffe ladies included Leah Bergin running a fast semi in the 400 of 59.94, and although making the final clearly had a problem and is recorded as a DNF, likewise Sophie Ellis ran 60.95 to qualify for the final but DNS. Emer Treacy qualified for the 800 final after a 2.26.80 run in her heat and then placed 5th in the final (2.24.97).
