Race 7 of the grand prix series, 800m results

The 7th race in the Grand Prix series (800 metres), took place last Tuesday, 24th June on the track in Santry, thankfully the weather behaved and the races went off, in a pleasant mild summer’s evening. Another large number of athletes turned out to compete with considerable numbers from the junior members of the club, some running their first race.

There were 6 races in total with many good battles fought, and some bragging rights earned. There were some very good performances on the night, including a strong purposeful run from Rachel Dowling and Cathal Doyle at the age of 15 running 2.09.

The winner in the Grand prix was Ray Dunne, followed in second by Emma Dunne and in joint third place Dermot Kelly and Collette McKenny. Fastest man on the night was Niall Sherlock, running a 60 second final lap. Fastest Lady was Louise Reilly

Ray Dunne’s win has has moved him to the top of the overall leaderboard, followed by Ger Kirwan and then Emma Dunne. Note that only 8 races of the 12 count, so plenty of time to score points, if you run all 12 races, your 4 worst scoring performances are excluded. Darren Reilly still has a lead in the fastest athlete competition, with Ernie Ramsey second and Niall Sherlock third.

Thanks to all the officials on the night, and to the Grand Prix committee for sponsoring the prizes. The next race is Thursday 12th July, 1500m on the track in Santry again at 8.00. The presentation will take place in the bar afterwards.
