Splashing good time on Skerries beach for second round of Spring series

Another excellent mornings athletics for the Clonliffe Juvenile athletes from U/10s to U/16s was had on Skerries Beach for round 2 of the Spring Juvenile Series. This mornings event was expertly hosted by Skerries AC who put on yet again a fantastic event. A 500m circuit was laid out on the hard sand with some water features left by the receeding tides to add to the fun, a great turn out of members of Skerries AC and best of all teas, coffee, buns and sambos. Well done Skerries! As per round 1 we were blessed with beautiful Spring sunshine and a still warm morning. The gods clearly smile on this series!

The Clonliffe athletes love this particular race and responded with some top drawer performances. There were wins recorded by Clonliffe athletes in 6 of the 8 races. Most impressive indeed.

The first race on the card was the girls U/12 running 1,000m and getting the club off to a winning start was Sol O`Lideadha. David Tuite lead Ben Guiden to a Clonliffe one two in the boys U/12 race. Lauren Carr kept the black and amber flag flying in the next race the girls U/14 1,000m with an impressive win and then Joseph Hession did likewise in the boys race with a gun to flag effort.

Next up were the U/16 girls running 3 laps, 1500m this was a great inter club race between Skerries and Clonliffe Sally Aherne running a great race sticking in with the sea of blue vests of Skerries to finish second. David O`Hanlon then dominated the boys U/16 race running another strong race from the front to record a comfortable win, all the more impressive as he had been confined to sick bay during the week, David was chased home by Sean Carrig in 2nd with good runs also in this race from Alex Gibbons and Thomas Ward.

The final races were the U/10s running 500m great efforts by all the young athletes in these two races with Aoike Hession 2nd and Alex Toomey 3rd for Clonliffe. The last race of the day featured the finish of the day as Clonliffe`s Gavin O`Brien made up 10m over the final 100 to just get his nose to the line first.
