Race report – Cooper/Lawler Plate :The Clonliffe Harriers 2023 Grand Prix continued under glorious tropical conditions In Morton Stadium on Thursday evening 7th September 2023. This latest event was the first time a second 5k distance was added to the Series. The race attracted a new sponsor with the launch of the inaugural Cooper/Lawler Plate.
Some 33 athletes took part in what proved to be two exciting races. Running and racing in the heat is never easy. Runners handled the tough conditions very well. In the first race Sean Doran had a magnificent run posting a time of 00:15:41. The performance exceeded the handicap expectations and Sean not only had the fastest time but also won the handicap. In the second race Tom Monks led home a field of 16 runners in a time of 00:21:22. A big thank you to all who officiated. A post-race prize giving took place in the Clonliffe Harriers Club House. Many thanks to the Cooper/Lawler crew for providing some delightful sambos and to Dan Lacey for organising refreshments.

The Grand Prix Committee would like to thank the Pamela Cooper/Ben Lawler training group for their kind sponsorship of this event. Prior to the presentation Shane Rooney spoke on behalf of the training group to formally launch the sponsorship. Shane thanked both Pamela and Ben for all their coaching work and that by launching this sponsorship the training group wanted to formally recognise their commitment and enthusiasm. A specially inscribed plate, part of the 5K sponsorship, will be presented at a later date.
